He was 67 at the time of his death. According to documents from the country obtained by TMZ, Liotta’s death was due to acute heart failure and respiratory issues. The documents categorized the actor’s death as “natural and non-violent,” and the result of heart failure, respiratory insufficiency, and fluid in the lungs—officially known as pulmonary edema. The report also noted that Liotta suffered from atherosclerosis, a serious cardiovascular…
As the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prepares to issue stringent new power plant rules, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), is putting his foot down. “I fear that this Administration’s commitment to their extreme ideology overshadows their responsibility to ensure long-lasting energy and economic security and I will oppose all EPA nominees until they halt their government overreach,” Manchin said in a May 10 statement. When asked that same day about Manchin’s vow, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Biden “stands by his well-qualified nominees to do the important work of the EPA.” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre…
A cake flying through the air in a conference hall in Germany. The unique protest happened during Volkswagen’s annual shareholder meeting. Things got heated as activists and investors voiced their concerns about the company’s operations in China. Around ten activists shouted accusations at the company’s CEO, accusing Volkswagen vehicles of being manufactured using forced labor. Their banners read, “End Uyghur Forced Labor.” The United Nations has raised alarms about China’s treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang—known locally as East Turkestan. Suggesting that it may constitute crimes against humanity. Beijing has consistently denied this. Investors also called on Volkswagen to request an…
Former President Donald Trump told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that she is a “nasty person” during a heated back-and-forth about the classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate, on Wednesday night at a CNN town hall. Trump stopped mid-response to make the comment to Collins, who appeared frustrated as she spoke over the top of the former president. Responding to a question about whether he had ever shown presidential documents to anyone, Trump said, “not really,” before adding that he had “the absolute right to do whatever” he wants with the documents, maintaining his contention that they were declassified. He also…
The Family Research Council’s (FRC) newly released report documenting criminal acts against churches shows a three-fold increase in the number of hostile acts throughout the United States in the first three months of 2023. A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a family-centered philosophy in society, the FRC has been documenting hostile acts against churches for six years. “Criminal acts against churches have been steadily on the rise for the past several years, and the first quarter of 2023 has continued the upward trend,” the report states (pdf). The account describes “a sharp rise in acts of hostility against churches in…
A judge ruled Friday to have a church in California pay $1.2 million in fines—including interest—for defying COVID-19 rules during the pandemic by holding large religious services where attendees were not wearing masks. Calvary Chapel in San Jose was dealt the fine, including 10 percent interest, on April 7 by Evette Pennypacker, a Superior Court of California judge in Santa Clara County, for having exhibited “egregious conduct” in flouting the mask-wearing rules of the county between November 2020 and June 2021. Calvary Chapel was one among several large churches in California that ignored the state and local mask-wearing and social distancing rules at the time. “It should…

A European spacecraft rocketed away Friday on a decadelong quest to explore Jupiter and three of its icy moons that could hold buried oceans. The journey began with a perfect morning liftoff by Europe’s Ariane rocket from French Guiana on the coast of South America. But there were some tense minutes later as controllers awaited signals from the spacecraft. When contact finally was confirmed close to an hour into the flight, Mission Control in Germany declared: “The spacecraft is alive!” It will take the robotic explorer, dubbed Juice, eight years to reach Jupiter, where it will scope out not only…
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Workers at one of Fort Lauderdale’s landmark restaurants spent Friday tearing out carpeting and original hardwood floors, both ruined when 8 inches (0.25 meters) of water poured inside two days earlier. Old Heidelberg was among numerous businesses and residences affected by historic rainfall in South Florida this week that caused widespread flooding, closing the state’s international airport for nearly two days and turning streets into rivers. While it started raining on Monday, much of the water fell Wednesday, and the Fort Lauderdale area saw record rainfall amounts in a matter of hours, ranging from 15 inches (38 centimeters)…
LIVERPOOL, England—In the end, nothing could stop Corach Rambler in another eventful edition of the Grand National. The 8–1 favorite produced a strong finish to win the world-famous horse race, which was delayed for 15 minutes Saturday after animal rights activists scaled fences around the perimeter of the course and got onto the track. Some of the activists apparently attempted to affix themselves to the race fences using glue and lock-on devices, according to the Animal Rising organization, before being taken away by police and security officials. Other activists, some using ladders, were prevented from getting onto the track by…
